Doc Nayya is a Columbia-trained, board certified ophthalmologist who started doing stand-up comedy after hitting a level of residency-induced depression usually reserved for Greek philosophers and people in line at the DMV. While some residents coped by constantly screaming at each other and rage-emailing administrators, Doc Nayya grabbed a mic and discovered that publicly oversharing into a spotlight was way cheaper than therapy. He found being vulnerable about our struggles can help others, and joking about them can help us heal.
Prior to medicine, Doc Nayya was a professional resume-padder, serving as a White House intern for the Obama administration, research associate at the National Cancer Institute, and ran a non-profit volunteer organization at a local children’s hospital.
